Planned IT Maintenance

Traditionally, the summer holidays can be an ideal time of the year for businesses or places of education to close or operate on a skeleton staff in order to carry out essential maintenance. It can also be a time when there are fewer IT users on site due to people being on holiday.

Consequently, summer is a hectic time for Link ICT as it is the ideal time for system upgrades to be carried out. Shutdowns and peak holiday seasons are ideal as it means less interruption to operations that rely on IT.

The summer of 2024 has been no different and our team of technicians has been very busy on-site carrying out installs and also implementing new software updates to help improve processes and the efficiency of the IT support that can be delivered to help users work and learn more effectively.

Here are a few examples of the projects we have carried out:

  • CCTV installation at Chellaston Academy
    • Chellaston Academy is a comprehensive academy in Derby, which is part of QEGSMAT. Installing CCTV will be helpful in ensuring the safety and security of pupils, staff and visitors and acts as a visual deterrent against malicious acts and poor behaviour.
  • Automated User Creation Software
    • A huge amount of admin time can be used to create and maintain user logs. Salamander Integration Suite automatically synchronises user accounts, groups, permissions and many other functions within the School Management Information System. We have installed this software to multiple schools over the summer. These schools will now benefit from the automated enabling and disabling of user accounts when people join and leave.
  • New Phone System – Bemrose School
    • As a long-standing customer we have a long-term IT strategy agreed with Bemrose. It also includes dates for when capital expenditure will be used to upgrade systems to the latest technology to ensure the school can operate efficiently. This new phone system means that connectivity is portable to school or home and across numerous devices which will help improve communication further, while also saving the school money.
  • Setting up new offices – IT systems, hardware, and phone system
    • TUSP is a UK-based consultancy with a global footprint, advising transport and infrastructure clients across three continents. In 2023, TUSP was acquired by Australia’s largest privately owned civil contractor BMD. In addition to its existing London office, TUSP wanted to open a 2nd UK office in Derby and Link ICT was appointed to set up all the IT systems, provide hardware and install a phone system.  We now liaise with the parent company’s IT team in Australia to support them with local, on-site, IT support.
